USBA Sandy’s Pro goes off!

Jeff Hubbard the 2009 USBA Sandy Beach Pro champ!
The Spunjah Chronic crew is all sandy beached out after this weekend. Two days straight of non stop action from sun up to sun down at Sandys. After the contest we headed to Dave & Busters to check out the award ceremony and find out who brought home the paper. Here are the first place winners from each division:
Amateur’s 13-18 years old
1st place – Alex Brown (Kauai)

Alex Brown sealing his victory in the Open Amateur Division
Open Amateur Men’s
1st place – Keahi Parker (Big Island)
Open Amateur Women’s
1st place – Christina Delima (Maui)
Standup
1st place – Kekoa Cazimero (Oahu)

Kekoa shows some versatility on the bodyboard!
Drop Knee Pro
1st place – David Hubbard (Kauai)

Dubb with the floater to take the DK crown!
Open Pro Women’s
1st place – Karla Taylor (South Africa)

The ladies pulled out all the stops...Karla Taylor, wife of madman Alistair Taylor shows us some innovation.
Open Pro Men’s
1st place – Jeff Hubbard (Kauai)

One of the many moves Jeff used to win this year at Sandys!
All the final heats were exciting and down to the wire. Jeff Hubbard barely edged out aerial guru Jacob Romero in the final minutes of the heat as did David Hubbard over Bud Miyamoto in the drop knee finals. Also if there were awards for stamina in the competition we’d have to give it to Elemnohpee team rider Willy Petrovic for surfing numerous back to back heats and making both the Open Pro final and the Drop Knee Pro final. Solid Willy P! It has also been a while since some representatives of the Hawaiian women pro bodyboarders have made finals at the Sandy Beach Pro. Props go out to Kelly Gordon of Maui and Jade Robles of Oahu who placed 3rd & 4th in the Women’s pro final. Mahalo to all those who came down to support especially those who traveled a little further than the outer islands to get here.
USBA Sandy Beach Pro sponsors: Vitamin Water, Tropical Rush yogurt, Lanikai Juice, Wahoos Fish Tacos, Dave & Busters, Custom X, Town & Country Surf, (sorry to anyone we forgot!)
